Legal Redress Complaint Review

The Gloucester County NAACP Legal Redress Committee reviews written complaints and concerns submitted to the Branch. Our role is to examine complaints, identify whether the issue may fall within the mission and interests of the NAACP, and determine whether the matter may be appropriate for branch review, referral, or additional follow-up.

Please know that the Gloucester County NAACP appreciates you coming to us for support. We are committed to serving as a resource and advocate for the community. However, our Branch is run by volunteers, and we may not be able to respond as quickly as you would like.

It is important to understand that contacting the Gloucester County NAACP does not create an attorney-client relationship. The Gloucester County NAACP is not a law firm, and we do not provide legal advice or legal representation.

Because documentation is important, all persons seeking Legal Redress review must submit their concerns in writing. This allows us to keep accurate records, better understand your concern, and review the matter through the proper branch process.

You should contact an attorney as soon as possible if your matter involves a court case, hearing, employment deadline, housing issue, school matter, police matter, government agency complaint, or any other situation where legal deadlines may apply. There may be important deadlines that you must meet in order to file, defend, appeal, or respond to your matter.

At times, an individual complaint may reveal a broader pattern of discrimination or systemic concern within a business, organization, institution, agency, or other entity. When appropriate, the local Branch may share such concerns with the regional or national NAACP for additional guidance.

Except under unusual circumstances, the Legal Redress Committee can only review a matter after receiving a written and signed statement.

After reviewing your submission, the Branch will consider whether your concern is:

  1. A matter the Branch believes it may be able to assist with and that aligns with the mission and interests of the NAACP; and/or

  2. A matter that may need to be referred to another organization, agency, attorney, or resource.

Again, we are not attorneys and cannot provide legal advice. If you need legal representation, you should contact an attorney directly. Once an attorney has been retained, the Legal Redress Committee is no longer directly involved in the matter.

We will do everything possible to review your written complaint and respond as soon as possible.
